Administrative help and support

Each research group has a research group coordinator who helps with all the practical and administrative duties related to the workflow in the respective group. This means everything from assisting with travel booking, proofreading articles, coordination and organization of meetings, workshops, conferences and the like; in short - everything between heaven and earth, so do not hesitate to get in touch with your coordinator.

Upon arrival your coordinator will also help you getting a cpr.number, creating a bank account and a NemID, obtaining a residence permit ect. If you are interested in reading more about these things you can do so here: One Stop Shop, Borgerservice , NemID-a new secure digital signature (in Danish), Orientation-day at AU.

Book about Denmark

If you want to learn more about Denmark, you can borrow the book “Denmark” by the write Sven Skovmand and the photographer Henrik Saxgren. Here you can read about Danish traditions and history.

The book can be borrowed for a month at a time by contacting Arne Nis Jensen in Ada 128.

Code of conduct

People at Computer Science are very friendly, informal and down to earth. We don’t use titles when we write or talk to colleagues. Furthermore, we don’t call a person Mr., Miss., or Mrs. – we just use the first name.

Social life

The Danes are friendly people, but we are not accustomed to many social activities related to our work. Therefore a good way to get into the social life of Denmark is to join a sports club or similar. If you are interested in meeting other international employees, or if you have any questions concerning social and cultural issues you can always contact organizer at International Club Gitte Haahr-Andersen.

The International Centre

The International Centre provides information that we hope will be useful to you and your family when moving to Denmark and during your stay here.

Things to see in Aarhus

The city of Aarhus is the capital of the Jutland peninsula, and the second largest city in Denmark. Aarhus University is Denmark’s second largest. Aarhus is both a metropolis and a village: It offers cultural activities, shopping and commerce, but you can still reach the countryside within twenty minutes.

The city is located by the sea. At the harbor you find heavy cargo transport, small fishing boats and yachts, in a charming mix. The many parks are all pleasant, and the city has easy access to the woods to the north. To the south, the woods are bigger and less park-like. It is very easy to go for a scenic run by the sea and/or in the woods in the mornings if you'd like.

Of cultural sites, Aarhus has - amongst other options - a large art museum, ARoS and a museum in the shape of an old city, Den Gamle By (The Old Town). If you bring your family, you might also be interested in knowing that Legoland is only a bit more than an hour drive from Aarhus and very close to Billund airport.

At Visit Aarhus you will find loads of information about things to do and see in Aarhus, for example information about Aarhus by bike, The Botanical Gardens, Second Hand Market at Ingerslev Boulevard and much more.

You can also find information on places to eat. Notice that it is relatively expensive to eat out in Denmark, and therefore you are not expected to leave a tip.

University International Club (UIC)

The University International Club (UIC) provides a social and cultural meeting place during the semester time for international staff members and their spouses, guest employees and visitors from abroad. In addition to the meetings, you can sign up for the weekly newsletter UIC News at uic@au.dk which provides information of general interest as well as suggestions and announcements for the coming weekend.

Ægtefællejobbørs -The Partner Link

Aarhus University participates in a network “Work in Denmark” to improve foreign employees' spouses job opportunities.

The network is called "Ægtefællejobbørs - The Partner Link" and companies all over Denmark participate. The partnership consists in that Aarhus University once a month receives short résumés from the spouses, which we transmit to all devices. The spouses also have the opportunity to send their brief CV to “Work in Denmark”, who will forward it to the participating companies. For further information you can contact Anne P. Langer at the International Centre.
