Research in user experience has grown dramatically in the past 10 years; yet many of our key notions are unclear and our empirical results are mixed. In this talk I will give examples of work that challenges our understanding of user experience by studying narratives of experience, by qualifying what user satisfaction is, and by contrasting meaning and pleasure.
