About the talk
The talk will cover a broad range of the quantum algorithm and quantum software work they do at the Centre for Quantum Mathematics at SDU.
In particular, their recent work on applications of Gaussian Boson Sampling to computation of Gaussian weighted integrals, where they can mathematically establish exponential speed up over Monte Carlo sampling under certain conditions and speed up over Monte Carlo sampling in general. Their novel ideas of implementing both the Andersen–Kashaev TQFT and further the Witten–Reshetikhin–Turaev TQFT as novel forms of Topological Quantum Computing on various kinds of quantum hardware will be reviewed, and their collaborations with quantum hardware teams both from academia and from quantum start-ups will be covered. Finally, collaborations with major Danish and international industry partners via their collaboration with Qpurpose will be discussed.
About the speaker
Jørgen Ellegaard Andersen is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and Director of the Centre for Quantum Mathematics (QM) and the SDU Quantum Hub. He received his DPhil in Mathematics from the University of Oxford and was C.B. Morrey Jr. Assistant Professor at UC Berkeley before becoming professor at Aarhus University; he joined SDU in 2019.
His research spans:
- Topological quantum field theory, quantum topology, geometric quantization of moduli spaces, and low-dimensional geometry and topology.
- Foundations of quantum theory and quantum algorithms/software, with applications across optimization, differential equations, combinatorics, quantum communication, error correction, finance, ligand docking, and logistics.
- Leadership of major international collaborations, including serving as corresponding PI on the ERC Synergy project ReNewQuantum.
