Suppose two companies each have a database of sensitive customer information, and wish to perform some statistical analysis across all of the customers they have in common. How can they do this, without revealing who their customers are, and any of their sensitive details? This is one of the questions researchers are tackling with techniques in the field of secure computation, using cryptography. In this talk, I will give a high-level overview of secure computation and the kinds of problems it can be used to solve. I will then demonstrate several simple and accessible methods of doing this, and finally touch on some directions of my own research in this area.
