Meet four new students and learn about their expectations for their degree

On August 27, the department welcomed 234 new students, who will be studying either IT Product Development or Computer Science. During their intro days, we talked to four of them about their expectations for the next three-five years.

Are you also new to the Department of Computer Science? Check out our good advice for new students.

Simone Randrup, IT Product Development

Why did you apply to IT Product Development?

I thought, I sounded interesting. I’ve always been interested in IT and development of applications. For example I had an IT class in high school, which I found exciting.

What do you expect from studying IT Product Development?

I expect to become very skilled in programming and IT, but I don’t have many expectations apart from that.

Do you know what you want to work with after your degree?

I think I want to work as an IT consultant after I finish my degree. Project manager might also be an interesting option, but we’ll see after I finish.

Frederik Pedersen, Computer Science

Why did you apply to Computer Science?

I’ve always been interested in math and what it can do. I expect to receive a very broad education that I can use in many different places. I considered studying insurance math at KU, but I found the course to be very linear. There were not a lot of possibilities to think outside the box. IT seems great, because it will be possible for me think in broader terms during my degree.

What do you expect from studying Computer Science?

I expect to become really good at math and programming, which I think will be a large part of the first semester.

Do you know what you want to work with after your degree?

Not at all. That’s why I chose this degree, because I believe that there are many options for different career paths with it.

Anna Blok Frederiksen, Computer Science

Why did you apply to Computer Science?

Because it interests med and also because the degree was on the Positive List. I have a master’s degree in phsychology, so I didn’t have a lot of degrees to choose from.

What do you expect from studying Computer Science?

I expect it to be very analytical and mathematical in the beginning, and that there will be a lot of math throughout the course.

Do you know what you want to work with after your degree?

I wrote my thesis in psychology on user interfaces and how it influences people. User interface is not part of the Computer Science degree, but I hope that I in some way will be able to combine the two degrees, when I am finished.

Tobias Pisner, Computer Science

Why did you apply to Computer Science?

That’s a good question. I have been programming for a long time and have an interest in programming. I have experience with Java and C++ for instance, and I expect there will be plenty of time dedicated to them during the degree.

What do you expect from studying Computer Science?

I don’t have too many expectations, so we’ll see what happens.

Do you know what you want to work with after your degree?

Not really, no.
