Mogens Nielsen: a modern Janus

On October 3 and 4, at the occasion of his 60th birthday, Professor Mogens Nielsen was celebrated by his former students and his colleagues, locally, nationally and internationally. Mogens Nielsen is the second PhD of the Department of Computer Science at Aarhus University, in 1976. Since then, he has led a double career: one is local and national where he has relentlessly served as teacher and as administrator; and the other is international where he has no less relentlessly served as researcher and as administrator. For 12 memorable years, from 1994 to 2006, Mogens's two careers overlapped in BRICS, which he jointly initiated with Erik Meineche Schmidt and Glynn Winskel and subsequently directed. Today he is heading the PhD education of the Faculty of Science at Aarhus University.
