Abstract

Although quantum computing would help us to solve many computational problems faster that what we can today, one of the most hyped consequences of large scale quantum computing is that it could break all public-key encryptions schemes we use in practice today.

In the talk, we examine this more closely:

 

  • Why is quantum computing different from classical?
  • What is hype and what is reality in the consequences for practical cryptography if we could build large quantum computers?
  • Will quantum cryptography save us or must we do something else?

 

Honorary Lecture

Ivan Damgård's talk is the second out of three lectures in honor of three distinguished professors at the Department of Computer Science. After the talk, there will be a small reception outside the auditorium.

In 2018, Ivan Damgård recieved the Villum Kann Rasmussen Annual Award in Science and Technology in recognition of his outstanding research in the field of cryptography and data security.  The Villum Kann Rasmussen Annual Award in Science and Technology is biggest award in Denmark given to a single researcher.
