Special talk by Ken Pfeuffer on Eye Hand Symbiosis
Abstract:
Since Bolt's "Put-That-There", an interactive system that responds to users' speech and gesture, multimodality has become a core asset to user interfaces of present and future. In this talk I will lay out my research on the multimodal combination of eyes + hands. I discuss how established manual interfaces (touchscreen, stylus, VR) can be enhanced with visual information that is obtained through eye tracking. This includes where the eyes are observed in the background to understand intent and context, and explicit user control mechanisms enabled by voluntary eye direction, pointing to future interfaces where eye and hand based input seamlessly work in tandem for intuitive and efficient human-computer interaction
