Abstract: This talk discusses the rapid progress of AI coding tools and their implications for software development and computer science education. Recent model improvements have led to a major leap in performance, with AI systems now generating 80–99% of source code in many companies, while developers remain closely involved in the process. Research labs at UMD report substantial productivity gains from adopting these tools.
