Practical Research Projects - Project Description

Project Description

This is a description of a Practical Research Project associated with the PREP course

Project Title

Tangible Interaction with Music

Quarter

Q4 2011

Responsible

Marianne Graves Petersen.

Aims

The project aims to explore new tangible means for interacting with music in the home. It adopts a research through design approach and involves developing functional prototypes which can be tested in lab and context. The project is done in collaboration with Bang & Olufsen and the research group in Center for Interactivespaces. This project is suited for two students working together. It can also be undertaken as a masters thesis project.

Learning Outcome

The students will establish an overview of related research in the area of tangible interaction with music. They will analyze the area and they will design and develop a prototype which goes beyond state of the art. Finally they will evaluate the prototype through conducting an experiment.

Requirements

iIT students in their fourth year will have a perfect background for conducting this project. It involves a mix of physical design and software development, and also an interest in collaborating with an industrial partner - Bang & Olufsen.
