CPN2000: New Interaction Methods for Complex Graphical Tools OOPSLA'99, November 1-5, 1999, Denver, Colorado. Colorado Convention Center - Exhibit Hall Room 3. Wednesday & Thursday 3:00pm-3:45pm. Paul Janecek & Henry Michael Lassen, Computer Science Department, Aarhus University The CPN2000 project is an ongoing research project exploring advanced graphical interaction techniques and user interface modeling for the editing and simulation of Coloured Petri Nets. Its results can be applied to other graphical formalisms such as UML diagrams or Statecharts. The demo shows the use of two-handed interaction techniques such as semi-transparent toolglasses that let the user specify an object and a command in a single click through the toolglass, contextual interaction techniques such as pie-shaped, marking menus, and object-oriented interaction techniques such as magnetic guidelines to align objects and keep them aligned. Put together, these techniques make the interface less cluttered and yet more powerful and efficient than traditional graphical interfaces. The tool is implemented in the BETA language and uses OpenGL as its graphics engine.
