All PhD students at the Computer Science Department of Aarhus University are affiliated with the BRICS PhD school.
BRICS started in 1994 as a research center supported by the Danish National Research Foundation, covering Theoretical Computer Science at Aarhus and Aalborg Universities. In 1998 BRICS was established as a PhD school as well as a research center, again with the support of the research foundation.
From 2006 BRICS has been a PhD school covering all PhD students in computer science in Aarhus, while also collaborating with parts of Media Sciences in Aarhus, and parts of computer science in Aalborg University. BRICS is now partially funded by the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation.
BRICS recruits Danish as well as foreign students of high international standard, and we also have a program for visiting PhD students from other universitites.
BRICS provides infrastructure and support for PhD students and supervisors in connection with qualification exams and defenses, and it supports various activities for PhD students, including retreats, courses and leisure activities.
In day-to-day operation, the Aarhus branch of BRICS functions as a part of GSST (Graduate School of Science and Technology)
BRICS is lead by the PhD committee, chaired by BRICS director Anders Møller.
