Rector Brian Bech Nielsen visited Department of Computer Science

Aarhus University must maintain its independence, focus on international recruitment of researchers and students, and increase its collaboration with the private sector. Through this, the university can maintain its high ambitions on quality in research, knowledge and education for the future. This was the main message when Rector at Aarhus University Brian Bech Nielsen visited the Department to meet staff and discuss the university's development, visions and challenges in the year to come.

Aarhus University faces particular political and economic challenges these years (the study progress reform and the dimensioning model just to name a few) but Department of Computer Science is well equipped for the task. This was the main message when Rector at Aarhus University Brian Bech Nielsen visited the Department to meet staff and discuss the university's development, visions and challenges.

Rector followed up on a warm welcome by acting head of department Kurt Nielsen, by saying that Aarhus University is a strong university, which provides education and research at a high international level. But also a university that has to operate within an increasingly tighter economic, political and competitive environment - especially when it comes to international competition from top-100 universities which Aarhus University compare itself to.

A key task for the university in the future will be to maintain it's independency and expand it's high ambitions on quality in research, knowledge and education. Other objectives are an increased focus on international recruitment of researches and students and increased collaboration with the private sector.

During the visit, there were questions from the employees regarding the political priorities in research and education, academic quality, private funding and international competition. Brian Bech Nielsen responded willingly to all questions making the visit a fruitful one for all.
