Postdoc in Mink Genetics and Genomic Selection 1002653

A two-year postdoc position in genetic analysis and genomic selection in mink is available at the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG) at Aarhus University. 

Research area
The successful candidate will analyze the genetic background for production and disease traits in mink and develop genomic selection tools for mink breeding. The postdoc will use advanced methodologies of quantitative genetics and statistical theory to develop improved models and analyze genomic and phenotypic data. In addition, the postdoc will have a close cooperation with mink industry, and provide background knowledge to improve the tools for practical breeding.
Required qualifications
• PhD in Quantitative genetics, statistical genetics, animal breeding /genetics, or equivalent subjects
• Solid knowledge of quantitative genetics, statistics and animal breeding
• Sound knowledge of genetic evaluation and selection methods 
• Experiences on working with genomic selection and/or mink breeding is highly desirable and will be prioritized
• Strong organizational and communication (in English, both oral and written) skills
• Demonstrated ability to interact well with mink industry or other relevant organizations.
• Ability to work in a large and diverse group of researchers, and collaborate with national and international research partners.

About QGG
QGG comprises about 20 senior staff and a large group of PhDs and postdocs. The center provides a very dynamic and internationally orientated environment with strong collaborations with relevant industrial partners and with several other leading international research groups in the area. Research within QGG includes both basic and applied research on the genetic basis of complex traits in farm animals, plants and model organisms. The core research is development, implementation of advanced statistical, and bioinformatics methods for analysis of genetics problems. The research within QGG is characterized by a very close synergy between method development, basic analyses and application of the developed methods on practical problems across animal species. The center is part of the Department for Molecular Biology and Genetics and is located at the AU Foulum campus (for the locations of the department see QGG provides a very dynamic and internationally orientated environment with strong collaborations with relevant industrial partners and with several other leading international research groups in the area.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
